A nine hour outage to undertake essential maintenance work on the main power line into Kaitaia and surrounding districts has been scheduled for Sunday 19 November from 8am to 5pm.

If this maintenance is unable to go ahead, due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, the alternative date is Sunday 26 November from 8am to 5pm.


Affected areas:

All districts north of the Mangamuka Ranges (excluding Kohukohu, Motukaraka, Te Hua Hua and Creamery Road) but including:

Whangape, Ahipara, Awanui, Awaroa, Broadwood, California Hill, Diggers Valley, Double Crossing, Fairburn district west of the Kaiaka Hall, Henderson Bay, Herekino, Houhora, Houhora Heads, Hukatere, Kaimaumau, Kaingaroa district west of but not including Kaingaroa School, Kaitaia, Kareponia,  Lake Ngatu, Maimaru, Mangatoetoe,  Manukau, Mitimiti, Motutangi, Motuti, Ngataki, Oturu, Pamapuria, Pawarenga, Pukemiro, Pukenui, Pukepoto, Rangi Point, Rangitihi, Rotokakahi, Ruaroa, Runaruna, Sweetwater, Takahue, Te Hapua, Te Kao, Te Paki, Thoms Landing, Unahi, Victoria Valley, Waiharara, Waihopo, Waimanoni, Wainui, Wainui Junction, Waiotehue, Waipapakauri, Waipapakauri Beach and Waitiki Landing.

Outside the outage area:

While generation from Taipa will supply the areas listed below, Top Energy asks that people limit their power consumption to avoid overloading the generators. If generation capacity is exceeded, power supply cannot be maintained.

All areas on State Highway 10, north of Simential Lane including Aurere, Cable Bay, Chucks Cove, Coopers Beach,  Fern Flat, Hihi, Honeymoon Valley, Eastern Kaingaroa district  including Kaingaroa School, Karikari Peninsula, Kenana, Kohumaru, Lake Ohia, Mangonui, Mill Bay, Oruru, Paewhenua Island, Paranui, Parapara, Pekerau, Peria district east of the Kaiaka Hall,  Rangiputa, Taipa, Tokerau Beach and Whatuwhiwhi.pla

What you can do to prepare for the outage:

  • Turn off all electronic appliances (microwaves, TVs, DVDs, computers etc.)
  • If you are reliant on electricity for medical support equipment please contact your medical provider for advice.
  • Lift and store enough drinking water from personal water wells before the power goes off.
  • Fill up your gas cylinder for the BBQ and your petrol tank – remember pumps and EFTPOS won’t work.
  • Treat all powerlines and electrical wiring as being live at all times. Be aware that restoration could occur at any time without notification.
