You can now check your phone for the last outage updates on the Top Energy network.

The mobile app was launched recently as a convenient customer tool to complement the Top Energy website outage centre.

Chief Executive Russell Shaw says the App provides the same functionality as the outage centre and he encourages people to download and subscribe to outage updates.  The App is compatible with Android or Apple mobile devices.

He describes the initiative as a step in streamlining customer outage information and providing another mechanism for people to receive latest outage updates.

Mr Shaw says customers can subscribe to receive outage notifications specifically for their property. The interactive map will display general information regarding the cause, numbers affected and likely duration of the outage.

As with the outage centre, customers can subscribe by providing their 15 character ICP number found on their power bill. They will then receive notifications via email or text advising of planned or unplanned outages affecting their property.

Mr Shaw says the App provides another option for people wanting the latest information. It will also help prevent call queueing during high peak call times such as storms.

He says information will be as accurate as possible at the time of publishing and the map will be updated as new details becomes available.

However, Mr Shaw says there could be some variation in the information as often circumstances in the field are constantly changing – particularly during emergency situations and major weather events.

“During major outages, restoration times and locations may not be available as crews are focused on restoration and will not be able to immediately provide updated field estimates.”

Mr Shaw advises people to always err on the side of caution and assume the power can come on at any time and treat lines as live at all times.

To install the app: For an Android device go into Apps, then Play Store and search for ‘Top Energy’. Likewise Apple devices use the Apple Store. Once installed, there is a menu option to subscribe.
