1. INTERCONNECTION - RANGIAHUA AND SOUTH ROAD (STAGE 2)
STATUS: PLANNING
This project will create smaller sections of lines using remote control switches to reduce the number of customers affected during faults, and shorten the time it takes to locate a fault.
We will also look at how we can provide an alternative source of supply interconnecting the South Road and Rangiahua distribution lines. Completion of this project is expected during
October 2025.

2. SANDHILLS RD-HEREKINO & AWANUI HIGH VOLTAGE DISTRIBUTION LINES
STATUS: CONSTRUCTION
Sandhills Road project enables the interconnection between Awanui and Herekino. It will upgrade the existing line on Sandhills Road, and extend a new line to complete the
interconnection. Apart from improving resilience, it allows for the backfeeding of supply from an alternate direction, resulting in fewer customers being without power during both planned and unplanned outages. Completion of this project is expected during July 2025.

3. OMANAIA 33KV SUB - TRANSMISSION LINE REFURBISH (STAGE 7)
STATUS: ESTIMATING
The Omanaia 33kV sub-transmission line is the sole source of power supply to Omanaia. To increase flexibility and security to the power supply in this area, we are going to refurbish the 33kV line by replacing power poles, cross arms, and line hardware improving the reliability of this line. Stage 7 will address 59 structures. Completion of this project is scheduled for April 2026.

4. INTERCONNECTION - MATAURI BAY AND WHANGAROA LINES CONDUCTOR UPGRADE (STAGE 2)
STATUS: PLANNING
The commissioning of the newly constructed Whangaroa – Matauri Bay 11kV Interconnections prompted the need to upgrade sections of the overhead line to increase the current carrying capacity as well as improving the reliability of the line. Completion of this project is planned for April 2026

5. UNDERGROUND OMANAIA SUB-TRANSMISSION LINE
STATUS: CONSTRUCTION
During the Omanaia rebuild some risks such as dual lines on a single structure out of the substation were identified for the security of power supply to the South Hokianga area. This project undergrounds these lines and upgrades the switchgear at the Omanaia substation to enable security and alleviate constraints. Construction is planned for Summer 2026

6. 110KV UPGRADE – WIROA SUBSTATION
STATUS: DESIGN
Wiroa substation is undergoing extension and upgrade work to support capacity growth in the area and voltage regulation to the eastern coastline. The upgrade will commence in October 2025 with final completion in 2029.
