Driven by steady population and economic growth in the Far North, the number of applications to connect to the Top Energy electricity network has doubled over the last two years.

In the last three months alone, we received 277 applications from homeowners, businesses and developers in the region.
Applications for distributed generation connections, such as wind or solar, are on the rise too as consumers increasingly adopt renewable energy alternatives.

How to get connected

Applying for a connection is simple. Complete the online application form on our website. There is an application fee of $100. The cost, and how long it takes to connect depends on your requirements and what’s already in place.

Residential New Builds

If there is a connection point already at the boundary with capacity for your needs, and your service cable meets the correct electrical standard, it will take about 30 days. It can cost between $1,000 to $10,000.

If there is no existing connection point, we have to design and price a solution for you. There is a charge for this service and it can take up to 6 months to complete.

Most work can be done by a certified electrician but Top Energy is responsible for work in the Road Reserve/Public Space to ensure standards are met and the appropriate council easements are gained.

Distributed Generation

The process for connecting solar or wind is quite different, even if you already have a connection to our network. You, or your installer, need to complete the Distributed Generation application form.
