Ngawha Expansion Project

The project

Top Energy is proposing to expand its Ngawha geothermal electricity generation capacity at its existing Ngawha power station site. The Ngawha Geothermal Expansion Project will utilise available geothermal resource to benefit the region and the expected commissioning in 2020 is timed for forecast increased national electricity demand.

The benefits

Top Energy is working closely with organisations to identify complementary business development opportunities that have the potential to create 200 new jobs in the Kaikohe area as a result of the project.

Depending on the New Zealand electricity market conditions, Top Energy plans to build and test the operation of one power station at a time; with the first power station expected to be commissioned around 2023. Top Energy is seeking to have resource consents finalised by mid-2017 to meet this deadline.

Project updates

Top Energy will provide information and updates about the project online here at or during consultation activities with stakeholders.
