The refurbishment and upgrade of the Kawakawa substation is well underway and on target for completion in October.

Once the upgrade is complete, the reliability of the power supply for customers in the area will be improved through the addition of fans to increase the capacity of the transformers and help manage future loads. Extra seismic supports for the transformers will also be installed.

The refurbishment involves general building improvements as well as replacing the existing circuit breakers and upgrading the current protection equipment to help communications, monitoring and substation operation.

The refurbishment is part of Top Energy’s ongoing commitment to improve the security of power supply to the people of the Far North.
The substation will remain in service during the works and there should not be any planned interruption to power supply for customers in the area.
