A new substation in Kaeo will boost the reliability of the power supply to customers in the coastal belt north of Waipapa.

Construction will begin shortly with the first sod to be turned at the rural Omaunu Road site before the end of the month.

People living in the area may notice an increase in heavy traffic as Top Energy contractors establish their construction site.

The 33 to 11kV substation will be a key connection in Top Energy’s electricity network and 33kV lines will connect to the station from Waipapa.

Supply into the substation will come from the 11kV China Clay feeder which was recently upgraded with new insulators and cross-arms.

The new substation is a continuation of the company’s investment programme to reinforce the power supply for the people of the Far North.

The new Kaeo substation will be completed March 2018.
